Prologue

Born: El Paso de Umbral, The Basement, 68 M.G. (Age 31)

Octavio was left parentless at an early age after his rat-handler father died in a tragic accident in the Arena and his ratador mother, consumed with grief, impulsively disappeared to join The Horde army, never to be heard from again. Soon after, the grandfather he had been left with succumbed to illness, leaving Octavio a street urchin.

Despite his humble circumstances, Octavio's quick wits and faculty with languages earned him patronage and a place at the University of Al Sehir. Following his studies there he began to work for Laio the Handsome, who would soon become the Caliph of Al Sehir, as an attaché-at-large.
